| Cummerbundance - Cummerbunds were inspired by scarves worn around men's clothing at the waist in India. The first cummerbunds worn by Europeans were designed for the British military personnel in India. Cummerbund is from the Hindi word formed from Persian elements meaning 'waist' and 'band', band being a verb in Persian which means to close, and kamar, waist. This fully translates as "to enclose the waist". The pleated front created several overlapped areas of fabric suitable for holding small items. |
